Rocketman (Woomera) - Saturday July 18th

We slept fairly well last night - well two of us did anyways, Nate not so much as his bed was too hard.  We packed up fairly quickly and on the road again by 0820.  We remembered the last time we were here and had a great breakfast at the roadhouse on the way out of Port Pirie.  We thought we would do that again so picked up some bacon and egg rolls for breakfast.  Unfortunately I think they have new owners and they were not at all as I remembered.

We picked up a new friend on the way to Woomera - the wind.  Tony had the pleasure then of driving straight into a headwind.  It was also way more hilly than we remembered and felt like we spent almost the whole trip going up the hill.  We encountered a few road trains that were huge but certainly did not have trouble passing them - one of them even had 5 trailers!

We arrived into Woomera at about midday.  There's no fuel in Woomera so we had a quick stop at Spuds roadhouse which is at Pimba.

There's only one caravan park here and check in was odd to say the least. I had pre-booked a site but it appears that they didn't have it.  On arrival we had to call the owner, on a payphone as we had no Vodafone reception, and were given a site number to drive into.  Then at 4 30 pm I had to go to the office and pay - no one was in the office until then.

We made some toasted ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch and then set off to explore the town.  Its pretty well a ghost town now unfortunately, only one shop and its closed.  There's certainly a 60's vibe to the place too.  We wandered around the rocket park and had a look at the displays which was interesting.  

At 5 pm the bar in the caravan park opened for Happy Hour.  We decided to have a drink at the "Cudgee Bar" due to its uniqueness.  The bar filled quickly with locals so its clearly the only meeting spot here.
